Voice: A Night of Spoken Word

Emmy-nominated writer Jon Goode hosts an evening of spoken word featuring four of Atlanta's top storytellers.

About the performers:

Amena Brown is a spoken word poet, author, podcast host, and performing artist whose work interweaves keep-it-real storytelling, rhyme, and humor. She is the recipient of the 2021 Seneca Women Podcast Award, which awards a woman podcaster who uses her platform to uplift other women. Through her weekly podcast, HER with Amena Brown, Amena centers and elevates the voices, stories, and experiences of Black, Indigenous, Asian, and Latine women. The author of five spoken word albums and two nonfiction books, Amena was featured in Olay’s 2020–2021 Face Anything campaign alongside Jennifer Hudson and Busy Philips, and she is also the poetic partner for PATTERN Beauty, award-winning actress, producer, and activist Tracee Ellis Ross’ natural hair care brand. Amena takes arenas, theaters, and performance venues and turns them into living rooms, where performance becomes conversation and builds community. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, DJ Opdiggy, where she is also the Chapter Host of CreativeMornings Atlanta.

Jonathan Samuel Eddie is a performance & teaching artist. Through the art of spoken word, he’s helped thousands of young artists harness the power of their voices. His unique brand of comedic poetry draws inspiration from  black pop culture. He is the author of a poetry chapbook, “A Whole Notha Kinda Missing”. He was a  2018 runner-up in The Missouri Review’s Miller Audio Prize for Humor. He has opened up for comedians, Bruce Bruce and Earthquake.  He most recently appeared in the world premiere production of “Look Forward: The Ruby Bridges Story” at the State Theatre of Georgia.

Esmond Fountain is your next favorite comedian and writer. He's been seen on stage nationwide with The Moth, Story District, and PBS's Stories from the Stage. He also teaches storytelling through The Moth's Education Program and creates engaging videos that have garnered millions of views. You can follow him on Instagram @esmondfountain  

Before moving to Atlanta, Ashley McKelvy was a producer for the Austin-based storytelling show Testify. She has performed frequently at The Moth, won The Moth StorySlam, and was recently on an episode of the Story Collider podcast. She lives in Atlanta with her husband, Eric.
