Flock of Birds Artist Talk

Meet Dorothy O'Connor, the artist behind Flock of Birds, for a free talk beneath the 150+ handcrafted blue birds of Deer Hollow, followed by a reception.

This fall, more than 150 handcrafted blue birds took to the trees of Deer Hollow’s lower clearing. Now, the artist who made them is coming home to the flock.

Join Dorothy O’Connor in Deer Hollow Art Park for an afternoon conversation about Flock of Birds, the park’s first rotating exhibit. Inspired by the collective movement of bird murmurations, each bird is made from handmade Nepalese Lokta paper and resin-coated against the weather, and some carry twigs, seed pods and pine cones. Dorothy will share the ideas behind the work, how it was made, and what it means to see it live among the trees.

Dorothy O’Connor blends photography, installation and public art. A Hambidge Fellow and former artist-in-residence at Cheekwood, her work is held in the permanent collections of MOCA GA and Cheekwood.

The talk is free and open to all, with no RSVP needed. Stay afterward for a reception with light bites and drinks.
